Become a Board Member

Our volunteer Board of Directors are vital to the development and future of Harriman Programs

Are you interested in volunteering? We ask that you meet most of the following criteria.

Meetings are held every other month in Newburgh, NY – usually run 1 hour (12:30pm-1:30pm)

  • Serve as an active volunteer voting member of Harriman S-11 Board of Directors

  • Attend at least 75% of the Board Meetings and important related meetings each year (usually 6)

  • Become familiar with the bylaws, mission, policies and services of this organization

  • Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies

  • Maintain personal Board book by keeping it confidential and in good order and updated with inserts from the board meetings

  • Stay informed about Board matters, prepare themselves for meetings and review and comment on minutes and reports

  • Focus on Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) program reports as the main tool to maintain oversight of the operation

  • Volunteer for and willingly accept short term assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time

  • Assist in the recruitment of prospective Board members to augment the Board

  • Get to know other Board members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to collaboration and consensus

  • Be an active participant in the annual evaluation and planning efforts of the Board

  • Understand Harriman’s financial statements and that it is funded 100% through grants and unsolicited donations and 

  • THERE IS NO FUNDRAISING FOR THIS ORGANIZATION NEEDED IN THIS ROLE
